Loving this South Texas Life

Life at Home

Like most people we have been staying home. And, to be honest, I’m not upset about it. It has enabled us to have a much needed slow down that we had no idea we needed. By being somewhat forced to slow down we have had slower mornings, daily walks, breakfast, lunch and dinner at home and loads of playtime outside.

We have not been missing our constant time in the car, eating out and shopping (okay, I may be missing this just a little bit!). Before coronavirus we spent so much time on the go, going from one activity to the next that we weren’t able to truly enjoy each day. The kids have been napping longer and more consistently and are overall better rested.

  • Zoom Smash Cake was a hit
  • Big sister could not be more proud
  • How is he ONE?

This little guy turned O.N.E. His party was postponed but we still had a ZOOM smashcake and he had a fantastic day. Hard to believe he has already had one trip around the sun. He is around 31″ tall, 26.5 lbs, has four teeth (and working on two more) and is climbing up on everything. This Mama is wanting him to walk to give my arms a break!

  • Stellie loves to hang around B, he does not appreciate her jumping on him
  • K loves to Mama the puppy
  • It took a few days but these too are getting along so well

We added a puppy to the family! We were planning on getting her prior to staying home but it ended up working out quite well. Friends of ours had puppies and so Stellie joined our family. She is extremely smart and I wish she would use that to stop peeing on the floor. She was scared of Piper at first but now I love looking out in the yard and catching the two of them playing.

  • If it fits on his head, on it goes
  • Lots of messy paint & play dough time
  • cool wipe painting for Buddy
  • Playing outside in our dirt box
  • So many babies (this is mine from when I was 2)
  • and bandaids on heads. Big bandaid phase

We have had lots of playtime, inside and out. In South Texas, April can either be really hot or so nice and thankfully it has been beautiful weather to be outside recently. We have been taking advantage of that in the backyard. We have also been getting extremely messy with paint and play dough. And K has turned baby crazy these past few weeks. She is bandaid obsessed so normally her and her baby need one.

I’ve been keeping busy with the two of them, a husband working from home, a new puppy and making fabric masks for family members. I am also hoping to start blogging once again and making sure I am doing some things just for me.

While this societal slow down wasn’t expected, and it has caused a lot of pain and uncertainty, I am wanting to look for the silver lining in it. We are enjoying this family time safe at home and while I know everyone is ready to get back to “normal,” I am praying there is a new normal where families take priority and we recognize that we don’t have to always be on the go.

February??

wow! I have not blogged since October! I just purchased a new theme and am excited to get back into blogging again.  I needed a bit of a break and life has been pretty busy!  We had a wonderful holiday season with family and friends.  We drove (eek!) to Tennessee for Christmas and were able to spend about a week out there.  Since we got back it seems like we hit the ground running and now it is already February 7th!

Piper and Ellie as best friends. They play together most mornings and evenings and if Piper is away Ellie does not like it.  She is different from other cats in that she likes her family being around.

Piper was very excited about the Patriots winning the Super Bowl.  She has grown into the size of a small horse but we absolutely adore her!

In South Texas we have pretty mild winters.  Some days can be a little chilly but by the time we hit February we range between 50s-80s.  Seriously.  Although, it seems nice now but mid-July it doesn’t feel too good.  My birthday is coming up this weekend, so I am looking forward to that and then at the end of the month I am making a quick weekend trip back to Tennessee for our nephew’s first birthday!

It is crazy to think this little man is almost one.  It feels like he was just born!

So here is my quick update! I am going to try to do better at blogging consistently as lots of changes going on at the Peterson House!

Meet Ellie

ellie-paws-crossed

Meet Ellie.  Our new kitten.  She is quite proper.

piper-and-ellie

Piper loves our new addition.  It has been adorable watching Piper try to play with her the way dogs play.  Unfortunately, Ellie has not managed to catch on yet.

We have been missing a cat from our household since we lost our Willow back in April.  We have not let her out of the house yet and she does not seem to have any desire to go outside, which makes me quite happy.

mom-and-pets

My mom came to visit and see our new house for the first time.  She also met Piper and Ellie for the first time and loved them (of course!).

Piper Update

IMG_5024

So this is LONG overdue.  I used to be so good at blogging and then I fell off the bandwagon.  But Piper is adorable, of course and is OVER 50 lbs at 6 months old.  She has such a personality and loves being the center of attention.

where is daddy

She loves, loves, loves waiting for Josiah to come home.  I work from home so we spend a lot of time together but she goes crazy when she hears his truck!

cone head

She got spayed two weeks ago.  Her scare is healing up nicely but she is still biting this area on her back. I think she has changed the way the fur will grow there…. ugh!

destroyer 1

She is a master toy destroyer.  We have received quite a bit of credit from bark shop for each toy she has destroyed.  Which I use to purchase more toys she will just destroy.

destroyer 2

Be where I am

She absolutely has to be near me at all times.  Her favorite is to make sure she is touching.  It is cute but slightly annoying. Piper is such a handful but she was just what we needed at just the right time!

Piper Update

Piper dirt

This is just a small sampling of the millions (slight exaggeration there) of the photos I have been taking of our sweet Piper.  She is really getting her voice (it is LOUD!) and becoming a little sassy!  Our backyard is a construction zone and we have had a TON of rain recently.  That equals a LOT of mud and she absolutely loves it.  She does not love having to get cleaned up after she plays in the mud and water.  Go figure.

tired puppy

She loves to sprawl out on the floor.  It is the cutest thing when dogs put their legs behind them and I may be partial but even cuter when she does it.

Brianne and Piper

Brianne has a conference in San Antonio and has been staying with us.  Piper loves having her here!

Daddy Please

Piper is only 10 weeks old but has already learned sit and shake.  She has also learned to beg even when she has never been fed any human food.  She thinks by sitting and shaking she deserves whatever you are eating.  Sadly for her, that did not happen.
