Loving this South Texas Life

August 9, 2019

If this isn’t neglected, I don’t know what is

Wow.  So, so, so much has happened since I last posted in Spring of 2018! I don’t even think I know where to begin!

1 – Kate had TWO surgeries to correct her duplicated ureter.  Her first year was plagued with many hospital stays (6, I think?) accounting for over 60 days in the hospital.  She was an absolute trooper through and through and her shining personality is a testament to that.

2 – Kate turned ONE & then now TWO.  How do we have a two year old on our hands?

3 – Josiah opened up a new office/design center closer to home.  It is hopefully a place they can grow with for many more years.

4 – We added Banner to the mix! Born in April of this year he is such a fun addition.  Life is very hectic with the two of them but each day also holds so much joy (and caffeine!).

5 – and obviously lots more in between.  Trips to Vancouver, Montreal & Tennessee, both of the kids’ first trips to the beach.  Kate becoming a little fish in the water.  Both of them absolutely adoring each other.  Banner is smiling lots more and just lots of good times as a family of four.

Daily Random Post # 1

I have completely neglected blogging of any sort but for good reason.  Well, good reason in that I have a little munchkin who is now crawling and getting into everything but bad reason, because naps are few and far between.  For some reason she can function on much less sleep than I think she should be having and me having any time to do anything is seriously lacking.  I do try to do split second chores etc. while she is quietly playing but we all know that can last a very short time.  She is napping right now and so, we will see how long it lasts!

I think we are finally getting out of the new baby fog (I definitely still have those days though!) but at the same time we now have a moving, crawling baby on our hands and I’m honestly not sure which is harder.  She is much more vocal now, but still can’t express what she wants which has started with some intense 7 month old tantrums.  It is crazy to think how she went from being a helpless newborn to someone with such a budding personality in such a short time period.  I still look at her and am in awe that we created this wonderful human being, even though she makes me go crazy on a daily basis!

After all the struggle to get her here, keep her well, and get to this point, I am pretty impressed we have it mostly together (at least I think).  When they tell you having a baby changes everything, they aren’t kidding.  It changes your marriage, your time, your body (in ways I had no idea!), how you think, how you act and more.  There are so many things I never realize (or probably couldn’t have realized) prior to having her.  As much as my life is so much more difficult now and I have another human to worry about instead of just myself, she is so worth it.  Seeing her learn and explore and develop as quickly as she has makes the sleepless nights, early mornings, and long days so incredibly worth it.

Prayer & Focus

Prayer – “a devout petition to God or an object of worship.”

Focus – “a central point, as of attraction, attention, or activity:”

Each year I try to pick a word to focus on for the next 365 days.  This year I picked two words.  Prayer & Focus.  2017 has been a whirlwind- from giving birth, to learning to mama, to figuring out my new ‘job’, I have not been as in-tune as I wish.  This year I intend to work on my daily devotions and prayer life.  Balancing full time motherhood with quiet time has been a larger challenge than I thought it would be and I want to do much better.  I need to have Jesus time each and every day and I am still not exactly sure what that looks like when I have a little human who thinks naps are not a positive addition to her day.

In addition, miss k is growing and growing and I don’t want to blink and miss it.  I want to focus on each day for what it is – the good and the bad.  I want to focus on the struggles of learning this whole parenting thing while loving each and every stage she is in.  She is growing so fast and I think I am finally getting a rhythm down and I want to focus on it until I loose it!

2017 – What a year!

My last post was in February, February!  LOTS (and I mean lots!) has happened this year.  In July, our beautiful and perfect baby girl was born.  Baby K.  She means the world to us and has quickly stolen our hearts.

I had no idea it was possible to love someone that makes you so incredibly tired and dig deep into places you had no idea you had.  She has been worth every sleepless (still going!) night, every extra pound and every pregnancy pain I had.  Every parent thinks their child is the best, but she really is 😉

Piper is still a crazy, silly dog.  She has gotten into eating the Christmas presents & the baby’s toys… which is not cool.  She knows she is not supposed to and when I come home and find out she did, she immediately goes to her bed.  So, if she knows it is wrong why on earth does she do it?  Just something I wonder!

She did play a big role in our gender reveal last March (why yes, it has seriously been 10 months since I posted and 9 months since this happened!) and she ran out with pink balloons and a big pink bow.  She was also sprayed pink (don’t worry, completely washed out in one bath) but it made for a fun time!

Anyway, now I am busier than ever with little miss but hopefully I can get some more blogging time in soon!

February??

wow! I have not blogged since October! I just purchased a new theme and am excited to get back into blogging again.  I needed a bit of a break and life has been pretty busy!  We had a wonderful holiday season with family and friends.  We drove (eek!) to Tennessee for Christmas and were able to spend about a week out there.  Since we got back it seems like we hit the ground running and now it is already February 7th!

Piper and Ellie as best friends. They play together most mornings and evenings and if Piper is away Ellie does not like it.  She is different from other cats in that she likes her family being around.

Piper was very excited about the Patriots winning the Super Bowl.  She has grown into the size of a small horse but we absolutely adore her!

In South Texas we have pretty mild winters.  Some days can be a little chilly but by the time we hit February we range between 50s-80s.  Seriously.  Although, it seems nice now but mid-July it doesn’t feel too good.  My birthday is coming up this weekend, so I am looking forward to that and then at the end of the month I am making a quick weekend trip back to Tennessee for our nephew’s first birthday!

It is crazy to think this little man is almost one.  It feels like he was just born!

So here is my quick update! I am going to try to do better at blogging consistently as lots of changes going on at the Peterson House!
